Bri's First Time At The Leisure Club
For me, today's pictures document one of the great moments in Leisure Club history. When I was the pledge chairman for Eta Kappa Nu, the Electrical Engineering Honor Society, I hosted a party called a smoker. At a smoker, the pledges get to know the society members. It is an interesting situation and how can I say this politely… Let's just say that many of the pledges and the members have a hard time finding conversation away from class work. Keep in mind that these people are still pledges and the society ultimately wants them to become members. Having a dull party is not good advertising (which happened when I was a pledge the previous semester). My smoker completely changed the face and the pace of future smokers. The key was to successfully combine EE stuff with some sort of social activity. Familiarity reduces nervousness, as does beer. See the good doctor as a young boy in the first picture.
"Hey blondie girl, do you know how to tap this crazy thing . . . . called love?"
This smoker's four activities were musical chairs set to rock music (this went over well believe it or not, after we got going), The EE Dating Game, EE Jeopardy, and a wall mounted engineering quiz (calculators were allowed and encouraged, some guy took this seriously and asked Bob for a physics book. He needed some friction force, moment of interia, surface area of a sphere or some such crap). Today's pictures focuses on the EE Dating Game featuring our very own, Brian Kopp as bachelor number 1. Prior to the smoker a member, Linda Burianek, was politely asked to participate as the Bachelorette and replied with laughter. Which was followed by some begging on my part, but she agreed after I made up some BS line about the greater good.
I structured the questions to not favor any one bachelor, each bachelor got one purely technical question (remember these are honor students, the supposedly smart ones) and one easy EE question with sexual overtones. Being the geek that I am, I whipped out those questions quickly. Linda approved the questions, so we were set. The first round of questioning went well, Tommy Pino was unable to fully answer his electromagnetics question, would Linda later hold that against him? The second round started with Brian Kopp.
"Bachelor number one, I'm a fully charged capacitor. How would you best utilize my energy?"
Without even blinking an eye, Bri replies with
"With my lightning rod of course!"
Which brought the house down and knocked him out of contention.
Linda chose neither Brian or Tommy.
