Mexican Poppies

Story and Photography by Robert Cort

I went for a mountain bike ride in the Dona Ana Mountains (NE of Las Cruces)
on Sunday. We've had a wet winter (a whole 3 inches of rain), but it's
enough to bring out the wildflowers. These are Mexican Poppies. They can
range from pure yellow to pure orange or yellow with an orange center.
What's neat is that each large field tends to be pretty consistent. In
other words, a large field of pure yellows will be pretty much pure yellows.
