A Little Birthday Story

Some of you may not know this, but Scott Kidner and I have been trading books for several years. Mostly we've traded World War II books, Scott started it by lending me his copy of Stephen Ambrose's "D-Day". So it wasn't much of a surprise, when a week before Christmas, a package from Scott arrived. In it is a copy of a fairly beefy tome entitled "Vietnam - A History" by Stanley Karnow. Attached is a note from Scott saying "Finished this book and loved it. Thought I'd ship to you 'cause I bet you'll like it too. Don't let its size scare you it's great." Being the busy guy I am, I didn't start it right away, but set it aside without even removing the rubber band that Scott had placed on it for shipping. Well as luck would have it, we had a New Year's trip to ski with my Parents at Snowmass planned, and I tossed the book in the van thinking I might have a chance to read it in the car, or while we were at Snowmass.

On New Years Day (the evening before my birthday, I finally got a chance to start reading it. I had read the first chapter, when lured by the illustrations at the start of chapter two, I decided to peak ahead at some of the other illustrations in the book. What the #$%@%?

I've been HAD! Someone played a Birthday practical joke on me, and I not only took it hook, line and sinker, but I waited until just after we celebrated my Birthday. Timing couldn't have been better. There were eight of us sitting around my parent's condo, reading, talking, and etc. when all of a sudden I just closed my book and started laughing. Pam looked at me like I was nuts (I am, but that's beside the point). She looked at my mom and dad and said, "he's reading a book about the Vietnam war, what could possibly be so funny?"

Needless to say, it's a product I'm sure I can use.

The "Hair Milk" is back in the hands of someone that can use it. Thanks Scott. And, happy 40th to me!
